Traditionally - you would have connected both buildings to separate Internet broadband connections and use the VPN over the Internet to link both networks, but with wireless PTP, its like running a very long cable from one building to the other - better performance, bigger bandwidth, lower cost of ownership, lower support cost, and greater control over your network.

What is wireless?
The transfer of data between two or more points without a physical wire connection. For example, between 2 buildings in different cities or a hotspot and your laptop computer. If there are no wires, how is data transferred?
Simply by using radio waves. Similar to how your normal FM radio, mobile phone or TV works. For example, the BBC transmits TV programs and you receive the programs through an antennae, on the TV in your home.Does it work?
Yes. When it is done properly. How far can I go?
As far as you like, sometimes 100s of miles. Is it secure?
Yes - if configured properly. There are so many security measures are built-in wireless systems. How fast can data be transferred using wireless?
It depends on the technologies you chose to use and as wireless technologies gets better, so does the speed. But generally you can get up to 54Mps transfer rate, which is good enough for video, music and gaming. When do I need wireless?
When running a cable connection from point A to point B is not possible, too expensive, or you need the flexibility to move around and stay connected.Do I need planning permission?
No and yes. It depends on what you are trying to do.What can I use wireless technology for?
So many things - you are limited by your imagination and budget. Is it expensive?
No and yes. It depends on what you are trying to do.When do I need wireless connectivity in my office?
The are many reasons why providing wireless access in your office might be considered - here are a few reasons;- When the cost of running cables to every desk is too high or its impossible
- When you need to set-up an office up and running quickly
- When you want the flexibility to move things around - for example rearranging desk positions or re-positioning your network printer
- When you want to be able to access your network and or the Internet from your meeting rooms
- When you want your staff to have the possibility to work anywhere in the building - including sitting outside in the garden or in the food hall
- When you want to connect computers in your warehouse to the main office - for example printing picking or packing list from the sales office directly to a printer in the warehouse
- When you want to be able to access your network from other wireless-enabled devices like PDA, phones, etc.
Why do I need wireless connection between buildings, when I can get broadband connection for each building?
Simple - using a wireless Point-to-Point (PTP) connection between building A and B, means building B becomes a physical part of your network in building A - plus you take advantage of the dedicated bandwidth and speed between both buildings.Traditionally - you would have connected both buildings to separate Internet broadband connections and use the VPN over the Internet to link both networks, but with wireless PTP, its like running a very long cable from one building to the other - better performance, bigger bandwidth, lower cost of ownership, lower support cost, and greater control over your network.
I still do not understand, give me an example.
Your office is in building A and your warehouse is about 1 or 2 miles down the road (wireless freedom). You can connect your office to your warehouse using wireless PTP. This will for example allow your staffs in the warehouse to access your office network, so your stock management computer can be housed safely in a secure environment at your office in building A. You can also set-up a LAN (local area network) based VOIP (Voice Over IP) telephone system to your warehouse - free calls and faxes) between the warehouse and office - the cost saved, would pay for your initial wireless infrastructure investment within a year. For more information on Wireless technologies in Nigeria, please contact us.
